Golden Flashes Hit the Road to Eastern Michigan to End the Regular Season

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State University baseball team (27-22, 14-8 MAC) is set to close out the regular season on the road, traveling to Ypsilanti, Mich. for a three-game set against Eastern Michigan (10-40-1, 6-18 MAC). The games will be played Thursday through Saturday, May 16-18, and are scheduled for 6:00, 3:00 and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
The Flashes are coming off their sixth consecutive MAC series victory, earning two wins over Bowling Green at Stellar Field last weekend. Kent State is on a two-game slide, falling to the Falcons in the series finale and Wright State in a Tuesday matchup May 14.
Kent State remains in fourth place in the conference standings with a 14-8 record, coming in behind Central Michigan (19-5), Ball State (17-5) and Miami (15-8). The Flashes have clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament May 22-26 and will play for seeding this weekend in Ypsilanti.
Redshirt sophomore Ben Carew reached base in four of his five plate appearances and extended his hitting streak to 15 games in Tuesday's game against Wright State. He has now reached safely in each of the last 30 games.
Carew moved up to 16th in the nation with a .400 batting average and he is also ranked 14th in Division I in hits per game (1.59), 17th in hits (78), 32nd in runs per game (1.14), 36th in runs scored (56) and 57th in on-base percentage (.473).
Eastern Michigan
Eastern Michigan has struggled in the regular season, posting a 10-40-1 overall record. The Eagles have been mathematically eliminated from making the 2019 MAC Tournament with a 6-18 conference record.
The Eagles have faced four Power Five opponents in the 2019 campaign, notably traveling to No. 20 TCU for a three-game set and defeating Notre Dame 4-2 Feb. 22.
In MAC play, the Eagles earned a series victory against Bowling Green and swept Toledo in a three-game set. Eastern Michigan's sixth conference win was in the series finale at Ball State April 13.
The Eastern Michigan offense has averaged over four runs and eight hits per game this season, posting a .251 team batting average. The Eagles have notched 77 doubles and 14 home runs while legging out 14 triples on the year.
The Eastern Michigan pitching staff has had a bumpy campaign, combining for a 7.69 ERA. The battery has allowed opponents to bat .336, giving up 176 extra-base hits which includes 48 home runs. EMU pitchers have also walked 219 and hit 59 batters this season.
The two programs last met a year ago for a regular season conference set and will face off for the 117th time Thursday evening with the Flashes leading the all-time series 72-44. Last season, the Flashes won the final two games of the series with scores of 6-3 and 6-4, respectively.
