Flashes Season Comes to a Close at Regionals

PULLMAN, Wash.- The Kent State men's golf season came to an end in Pullman. Senior Bjarki Petursson posted the round of the day for the Flashes with a 2-under 68, but Kent State saw its season come to a close with a tied for ninth-place finish at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.

As the Flashes season came to an end, so did head coach Herb Page's. This year's regional will be the last for Page, who announced in March that he will retire once the 2018-19 ends. Page will exit after 41 seasons, 22 Mid-American Conference Titles, three NCAA regionals, and qualified for 17 NCAA Championships, finishing in the top 10 four times.

"They played their hearts out," Said Page. "It's closer than it really looks, we were only a few shots behind (fifth place) early in the round. I'm very proud of them. They never gave up."

The Flashes shot a 2-under 278 on Wednesday to finish at 8-under 832, 13 shots back of the fifth-place position and advancement to the NCAA Championship.

Petursson made six birdies to finish tied for 29^th at 3-under 207. He put up red numbers on No. 2, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 14 with just three bogeys.

Junior Chris Doody finished in the top-20 at 6-under 204, tied for 17th. He posted an even-par score after going 16 holes for par or better. Sophomore Josh Gilkison tied for 40^th (E, 210), shooting an even-par 70 on four birdies and two bogeys and a double.

Sophomore Will Kurtz tied for 47^th (+2, 212), notching two birdies (No. 6 and 15) and two bogeys in an even-par 70. Senior Gisli Sveinbergsson tied for 54^th (+4, 214), firing for birdies on the No. 5, 7,8, and 16 holes for an even-par final round score.
