Doody, Petursson Named All-American Scholars

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State University men's golfers Chris Doody and Bjarki Petursson were among the student-athletes named to the 2019 Division I Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholars, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced.
Under head coach Herb Page, his golfers have now earned 35 All-America Scholar accolades. Petursson has earned back-to-back academic All-America selections by the GCAA, while this is a first-time honor for Doody.
Petursson competed in nine tournaments this season and ended with a team-best 72.52 scoring average while shooting 11 rounds of par or better. A 2019 All-MAC First Team selection, Petturson's best finish this season was in the 2019 Mid-American Conference Championship for ninth place.
Doody finished the season with a 73.14 scoring average and picked up a top-10 finish. During his junior year, Doody tied the program's second-lowest 18-hole total in school history with a 64 (-6) at the NCAA Pullman Regional. Doody also went eight rounds of par or better with two rounds in the 60's.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
