Volleyball Wins Exhibition in Straight Sets

KENT, Ohio – Kent State opened the preseason by defeating Findlay, 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-8) on Tuesday night inside of the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes posted a .312 hitting percentage and received scoring contributions from every front row player that saw the court. Freshman Savannah Matthews led the way with nine kills. Senior Ashley Makruski tallied six kills and freshman Morgan Copley recorded kills on five of her 10 swings. Redshirt sophomore Alex Haffner had 28 assists on the night.
A stellar defensive effort limited the Oilers to a .044 hitting percentage. Sophomore Erin Gardner was the catalyst of the floor defense with a match-high 12 digs, while Matthews and freshman Gracey Jarecke added eight digs apiece. Eight players contributed to the Flashes' seven blocks. Sophomore Danie Tyson and Copley both had three stuffs.
Kent State will be back in action at the M.A.C. Center on Friday for the annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
