PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
The Golden Flashes (9-10, 3-5 MAC) sit in a three-way tie for seventh in the conference standings after back-to-back wins at Central Michigan last week.
Senior Mercedez Brown, junior Vanessa Imoh and sophomore Macie Moreland provided a balanced attack during the two matches. Brown and Imoh had 23 kills each, while Moreland added 22. Brown averages a team-high 2.50 kills per set overall for the season, while Moreland is the leader in MAC play at 2.62 kills per set.
Junior Lesley Furuta has taken command of the libero position and ranks fifth in the conference with an average of 4.01 digs per set. Furuta tallied a career-high 34 digs against Toledo on Oct. 9. In addition to being the most by any MAC player this season, only two players in Division I have topped that mark in a four-setter.
Senior Christina Vigil ranks fifth in the MAC with an average of 7.79 assists per set. Vigil is also versatile as a defender and averages 2.04 digs per set and 0.37 blocks per set. Senior Kylee Baranski made her Flashes debut last week and averaged 8.38 assists over eight sets against the Chippewas.
Redshirt junior Adalynn Ginley and junior Nadia Miller lead the defense with 57 total blocks each. Kent State is 6-1 when recording at least eight blocks.
SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN
The Eagles (8-12, 2-6 MAC) have lost four in a row and have only beaten last-place Central Michigan during league play. The defense has been strong, as libero Surabhi Srinivasan is second in the MAC with an average of 4.68 digs per set and middle blocker Azra Eric is third at 1.21 blocks per set. Outside hitter Nattie Slusher averages 2.71 kills per set to lead EMU's attack.
ALL-TIME VS. OPPONENT
Kent State owns a 22-44-1 record all-time against Eastern Michigan. The Golden Flashes have lost the past six meetings and last won on Oct. 8, 2022, in Ypsilanti.
UP NEXT FOR THE FLASHES
