CLEVELAND— Kent State junior Lesley Furuta has been named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.
Furuta made plays all over the court during a pair of four-set matches against first-place Toledo and averaged 6.75 digs per set, which ranked third nationally for matches played from Oct. 5-11. After tallying 20 digs in Thursday's opener against the Rockets, she had a career-high 34 digs on Friday. In addition to being the most by a MAC player this season, only one NCAA Division I player has topped that mark in a four-setter this season.
The Golden Flashes will back on the road this week with matches at Central Michigan on Wednesday and Thursday.
