WEST POINT, N.Y. โย The Kent State volleyball team has lost consecutive matches for the first time this season following a 3-1 (23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 16-25) setback to host Army West Point on Saturday. The Golden Flashes (6-4) finished with a 1-2 record at the Black Knights Invitational.
Freshman Savannah Matthews led the offense with 12 kills and a .379 hitting percentage. Matthews added 10 digs for her fourth career double-double. Freshman Morgan Copley scored a team-high 14 points for Kent State, totaling 11 kills and a career-high six blocks.
Setters Natalie Tagala (21 assists, 18 digs) and Alex Haffner (15 assists, 12 digs) both registered a double-double.
Sophomore Erin Gardner led the floor defense with 22 digs, while senior Myla King had seven rejections at the net.
Kent State concludes the non-conference slate in Northeast Ohio with two matches as part of the Cleveland Challenge. The Golden Flashes will go to Cleveland State on Friday, Sept. 20 and then host Niagara on Saturday, Sept. 21.
