KENT, Ohio — The first official practice of the 2019-20 season for the Kent State women's basketball team took place on the M.A.C. Center court on Thursday morning. The practice comes 40 days ahead of the Golden Flashes' first regular season game on November 5 at Duquesne.
Head coach Todd Starkey has many familiar faces on the roster for his fourth season on the Kent State sideline, as four starters and 83.6-percent of the scoring from last year's 20-win team that advanced to the second round in the Postseason WNIT.
"Overall, I think we are in a pretty good place and positioned well to build on last year's postseason run," Starkey said. "As a team, we are in good shape, we have good chemistry and we have some players that have already proven themselves at this level. We have gotten to a point where I really like our depth, especially on the perimeter."
Guard Megan Carter (15.9 ppg) was an All-MAC Third Team selection last season in her first full year in the starting lineup. Point guard Asiah Dingle (12.9 ppg) and forward Lindsey Thall (10.3 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.6 bpg) were named to the Mid-American Conference All-Freshman Team. Guard Ali Poole (8.8 ppg) is the team's most experienced player with 92 games in a Flashes uniform.
Kent State was able to conduct additional practices during the summer as it prepared for a foreign competition tour in Canada. The Flashes went 3-0 during the trip to Vancouver with an average margin of victory of 37.7 points.
Following four games on the road to begin the season, Kent State will host Ohio State in the home opener on Thursday, November 21.
