
Flashes Second Heading into Final Round in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- The Kent State women's golf team is in second place after 36 holes on Monday at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. The Flashes are 6-under par 570 (283-287) at the event.
"Today was a great start to our season," said head coach Lisa Strom. "Each of the ladies contributed to the team score today and it's fun to see that!. We handled ourselves well for the most part. Tomorrow, we're going to take care of business and finish strong. We can't control what others are doing around us, but we can be in control of our attitudes and being present."
Kent State has three leaders in its lineup as Caley McGinty, Pimnipa Panthong, and Karoline Stormo are all tied for fifth at 3-under par 141 through 36 holes.
"We're really pleased with Caley on how well she's adapted and adjusted to college golf. She handled things beautifully from start to finish today."
McGinty shot an even-par 72 in the first round and an impressive 3-under 69 in the second round. She carded three birdies in round one and four in her second round.
Panthong carded an even-par opening round and followed up with a 3-under 69 score. She went 27 holes for par or better and birdied four times in the second round.
Stormo started the morning with a bogey-free round of 4-under par 68. She birdied four times in both rounds bringing her day total to a team-high eight birdies. She finished the day with a 1-over 73 score.
Kory Nielsen is tied for 25th at 3-over 147. Nielsen carded a 1-under 71 after going 16 holes for par or better with three birdies. Nielsen finished the day with a 4-over 76 score. Thitapa Pakdeesettakul is tied for 41st at 5-over 149 (72-79).
Focus Jonglikit, who Is competing as an individual, is tied for 48th at 6-over 150 (76-74).
The Final round begins Tuesday morning with a 7:30 a.m. (MDT) shotgun start. Kent State will be paired with Pepperdine and Ole Miss.
