
Second Half Rally Falls Short in Miami

OXFORD, Ohio- Despite a second half surge by the Flashes that erased a 17-point deficit, the Miami RedHawks connected seven of their last eight shots to claim the 77-74 victory on Tuesday night at Millett Hall.
Kent State dropped its first conference game of the season and is 13-4 overall and 3-1 in MAC play.
Senior Troy Simons led the Flashes with a career-high 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor and connecting on 6 three pointers. Sophomore Anthony Roberts added 19 points and two rebounds, while junior Danny Pippen rounded out the double-figure scoring with 12 points.
A jumper by Pippen tied it at 68-all with 2:09 remaining, but a Sibande 3-pointer put the RedHawks up with 1:43 left, 71-68 . Pippen countered with a 3-pointer with 8- seconds to go and evened the score. Sibande answered back with a layup with 59 seconds left and Miami led for the remainder.
Neither team helped its cause at the free throw line as Miami shot 23 of 35 and Kent State went 8 of 15. Miami led 31-21 at halftime and managed to overcome Kent State's 53 points after the break. The Flashes made 14 of 30 (46.7 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc.
Kent State looks to bounce back as the Flashes take on Western Michigan on Saturday in Kalamazoo. Tip time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
