KENT, OHIO- Wrestling heads home this weekend for a pair of critical Mid-American Conference duals, hosting Ohio on Friday night and Missouri on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes and the Bobcats square off on Friday night at 7 while Missouri and Kent State tangle at noon on Sunday, both duals are inside the M.A.C. Center. Kent State sits at 1-2 in the Mid-American Conference heading into the two-dual weekend.
The Flashes are coming off a strong week that started with a MAC win over Southern Illinois at Edwardsville, defeating the Cougars 25-15. They backed up that performance with a 2-2 showing at the Virginia Duals, finishing in fourth place. Kent State had narrow losses to #22 Virginia and Fresno State while defeating Penn (#20 in Mid-Major poll) and Maryland. Tim Rooney led the team with a 5-0 week including a win over a top-20 wrestler in Louie Hayes of Virginia. The fifth-year senior took home the MAC West Division Wrestler of the Week and the MAC's Scholar Athlete of the Week awards for his efforts.
Ohio is 2-5 in traditional duals this season and is 0-2 in the MAC after losses to Edinboro and Missouri. The Bobcats are one of Kent State's oldest wrestling rivals, with this being the 75th meeting between the teams all-time. Ohio won last season in Athens, 24-12. Ohio also snapped a five-dual losing streak at Kent in 2017, but overall Kent State holds a 48-26 edge.
Missouri enters the weekend at #25 in the InterMat dual rankings with a 6-5 overall record but 3-0 in the MAC with wins over Buffalo, Ohio and Old Dominion. They will head to Central Michigan on Friday prior to Sunday's dual. They feature InterMat-ranked wrestlers at 141 (Grant Leeth-13), 149 (Brock Mauller-4), and 157 (Jarret Jaques-13).
Friday's match will be streamed on BoxCast while FloWrestling will pick up Sunday's broadcast. Live updates can be found on Twitter @KentStWrestling. All links can be found on the wrestling schedule page.
