KENT, OHIO- Four Kent State teams (Men's Cross Country, Softball, Women's Golf, Women's Gymnastics) received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for academic excellence. Those four teams scored a perfect 1000 over the four-year period from 2015-19, highlighting the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) release from the NCAA.
Public Recognition Awards are based on a program's most recent (four-year) multiyear APRs, awarded to teams posting scores in the top-10 percent of their sport. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division-I sports teams, measuring eligibility, graduation and retention.
The NCAA's latest report marks the sixth-consecutive year at least four Kent State teams earned a perfect multi-year APR score.
Five additional teams posted a perfect APR score in the last reported season (2018-19) with women's basketball, women's cross-country, women's track, women's soccer and volleyball earning the mark. Seven Kent State programs ranked within the top-three in the Mid-American conference and 10 ranked in the top-five. Thirteen programs improved or maintained their APR from last year.
"I am incredibly proud of the APR results of our student-athletes," Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen said. "This is not only a testament to their hard work and dedication, but displays the unwavering support from coaches, academic staff and faculty. These results showcase our graduating students and winning championships culture!"
