Student Athletes Post Academic Record-Setting Semester

KENT, OHIO- Kent State student-athletes recorded the highest fall-term grade point average (GPA) in department history (3.375), highlighting several academic records set in the fall 2020 semester.
Student-athletes continued to thrive in an ever-changing educational environment. Over the semester, student-athletes dealt with both virtual and in-person classes and all advising, and tutoring being held virtually. The student-athletes met the challenge, the fall term marked the 18th consecutive semester with a department cumulative GPA and the 17th consecutive semester with a term GPA of 3.0.
"In one of the most unique semesters our student-athletes have encountered, they continued to raise the bar academically," Angie Hull, Associate Athletics Director and Director of Student-Athlete Academic Services said. "Throughout the fall term, student academic support adjusted to meet the times, launching endless virtual counseling and tutoring sessions. Coaches and administration came together to fill various roles and help provide the support our students needed. The academic success this term was truly a demonstration of the Flash family environment we speak of often. "
68 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. A total of 271 student-athletes (60%) had a 3.4 GPA or higher while 363 student-athletes (80%) recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
It was a record-setting semester for four teams (baseball, women's cross-country, women's golf and women's soccer) who recorded the best team GPA or cumulative GPA in program history. Additionally, field hockey, women's golf, volleyball and wrestling all set team records for highest fall-term GPA.
Gymnastics led the department with a 3.847 team GPA with every member of the gymnastics team posting a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Women's lacrosse led the department with 11 student-athletes posting a perfect 4.0 GPA. Five teams earned a team GPA of 3.7 or higher while 12 teams have term and cumulative GPAs of 3.5 or higher.
