KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team started off its season with a dominant win over Bowling Green, 194.675-190.550, inside the M.A.C. Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Flashes won all four team events head-to-head against the Falcons as well as each individual title on their way to the sizable victory.
"I could not be prouder of the team," said Head Coach Brice Biggin. "They have been through a lot of adversity the last couple of months. They have really worked hard, and I could not be prouder of the start. We made some mistakes and those need to get fixed a little bit, but there were a lot of really positive things they did. A lot of kids really stepped up and did a great job today."
The Golden Flashes started strong on vault with all five scorers posting a 9.750 or higher with freshman Kyndall Gilbert scoring a 9.850 and picking up the individual event title in her first collegiate meet. Karlie Franz finished in second place with a score of 9.800.
Kent State looked well-rounded on bars as they posted the top-five scores in the meet. Madison Iannuzzo scored a 9.800 and won the individual title, while sophomores Olivia Amodei and Rachel DeCavitch tied for second place with scores of 9.775.
Samantha Henry scored a 9.800 on beam to win the event, and Abby Fletcher finished second with a 9.775.
Fletcher crushed her routine on floor to earn a first-place finish with a 9.875. Franz finished with another second-place finish on the day with a 9.825. Kennedy Weinpert finished in third place with a 9.800.
The Flashes will return to action next Sunday, Jan. 24, at Pittsburgh in a Tri Meet that will also feature George Washington. Kent State will return to the M.A.C. Center on Sunday, Jan. 31, for a dual against Eastern Michigan.
