
Gymnastics Travels to Pitt for First Road Meet

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team heads east on Sunday, Jan. 24 to take on Pitt at 2 p.m., looking to build on a tremendous performance in the season opener.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes are fresh off a dominant victory over Bowling Green and a sweep of the Mid-American Conference weekly awards, with senior Abby Fletcher taking home Gymnast of the Week and freshman Kyndall Gilbert earning Specialist of the Week.
Fletcher grabbed the individual event title on floor (9.875) and Gilbert won the individual competition on vault (9.850) in her first collegiate meet. They were not the only Flashes to take home event titles in the opener. Junior Maddie Iannuzzo finished in first place on bars (9.800), while fellow junior Samantha Henry earned a victory on beam (9.800).
Thirteen Flashes made an appearance in the season opener with six different gymnasts finishing in the top-two on their event. Sophomore Karlie Franz finished in second place on both floor (9.825) and vault (9.800). The reigning MAC Freshman of the Year, Rachel DeCavitch, tied for second place on bars (9.775) and finished fourth on floor (9.775).
Scouting Pitt
Kent State is 20-14 overall against Pitt but have lost three of the last four meetings dating back to 2010. The Panthers are 0-1 on the season, dropping their season opener to North Carolina State.
Katie Chamberlain and Katrina Coca tied for the first place on bars (9.875) and Lauren Beckwith won the individual beam title (9.850). Beckwith and the Panthers are ranked 17th in the country on beam.

Kent State returns home for senior day on Sunday, Jan. 31, against Eastern Michigan. The Golden Flashes will honor its five seniors after the meet. The Flashes then hit the road for back-to-back road meets on Friday, Feb. 6, and Sunday, Feb. 14, against Eastern Michigan.
