Flashes Pick Up Second Straight Win to Start Season

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Kent State gymnastics team picks up its second straight win to open the 2021 season with a 194.600-191.600 win over Pitt.
The Flashes have been extremely consistent so far this year, posting scores of 194.500+ in each of the first two meets.
The Golden Flashes started the meet off on bars and posted a score of 48.925, their best mark of the season. Rachel DeCavitch tied for second place on the event with a score of 9.825, while Jade Brown and Karlie Franz tied both scored a 9.800 to tie for fourth place.
Kyndall Gilbert led the Flashes on vault, finishing tied for second place with a score of 9.775. DeCavitch finished in fifth place with a 9.675.
The Flashes dominated the third rotation on floor, taking home the top-three spots. Abby Fletcher scored a 9.900 to win her second straight individual floor title, while Franz finished in second place (9.875) and Brown finished in third (9.825).
Kent State closed out the meet on beam with a solid performance. Cami Klein took home the event title with a career-high score of 9.850. DeCavitch finished in third (9.800) and Samantha Henry finished in fourth (9.725).
Next Up
Kent State returns home for senior day on Sunday, Jan. 31, against Eastern Michigan. The Golden Flashes will honor its five seniors after the meet. The Flashes then hit the road for back-to-back road meets on Friday, Feb. 6, and Sunday, Feb. 14, against Eastern Michigan.
