Flashes Host Eagles for Senior Day on Sunday

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team will honor its five seniors on Sunday, Jan. 31, inside the M.A.C. Center as the Flashes host Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m.
The Golden Flashes will honor seniors Jade Brown, Abby Fletcher, Sydney Chapman, Nasha Manitkul-Davis and Toshi Richard.
The 2021 Flashes are off to an excellent start, earning two dominant victories to start the season and posting scores above 194.500 in each of their first two meets. The team ranks 29th in the country and is looking to improve that ranking on Sunday.
Flashes in the Rankings
The Golden Flashes currently rank first in the Mid-American Conference with a 194.638 average and have been the most consistent team in the conference through two meets.
The team ranks first in the conference on both bars (48.888) and floor (49.050). Fletcher leads the MAC on floor (9.887) while Karlie Franz is second in the conference on floor (9.850).
Kyndall Gilbert ranks second in the MAC on vault with a 9.813 average. Two other Flashes also rank in the top-five in the conference with Rachel DeCavitch tied for fifth on bars (9.800) and Samantha Henry ranking fifth on beam (9.783).
Last Time Out
Kent State traveled to Pitt and came away with a 194.600-191.600 victory over the Panthers. Cami Klein picked up her first individual victory of the season with a 9.850 on beam, while Fletcher earned her second straight win on floor with a season-high 9.900. Franz (9.875) and Brown (9.825) finished second and third, respectively.
About Eastern Michigan
The Eagles are going to be a familiar opponent for the Flashes over the next two weeks. EMU travels to Kent on Sunday before the roles are reversed and Kent State will travel to Ypsilanti on both Friday, Feb. 6, and again on Valentine's Day, Sunday, Feb. 14.
There will be great competition as the top-two teams in the MAC will face off three times in a row. The Eagles have posted the highest score in the conference this season (194.775) but are slightly behind the Flashes in average (194.538).
The two teams are tied for second in the MAC on vault (48.575), while the Flashes have the advantage on bars and floor. EMU holds a slight advantage on beam, ranking second in the conference.
Courtney Bezold leads the MAC on bars (9.838) and Shannon Gregory ranks first in the conference on beam (9.850). Caitlin Setler ranks third on beam (9.813) to give the Eagles a powerful beam lineup.
