
Johnson and Ba Earn Hardware at MAC Cross Country Championships

YPSILANTI, Mich. — Senior Drew Johnson and freshman Baidy Ba posted top-20 finishes in the men's 8K race to lead Kent State at the 2021 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
The duo helped the Golden Flashes place sixth on the men's side. Johnson raced to All-MAC Second Team honors for the second year in a row, crossing the finish line 11th in a time of 24:43.3. Ba completed the race in 25:03.9 to finish 17th overall and was named MAC Freshman of the Year as the first first-year runner to cross the line. Sophomore Joe Farley was the next Kent State runner to finish with a time of 25:38.2.
The women's team had its best showing since 2014, finishing eighth. Graduate student Stephanie Ward had the highest finish by a Flash since 2015, just missing all-conference honors in 15th-place with a time of 21:34.0 in the 6K race. Senior Leah Lisle (22:07.9) and freshman Sydney Gallagher (22:40.8) placed 31st and 46th, respectively, to give Kent State a trio of top-50 performers.
The NCAA Great Lakes Regional is next for the Flashes on Nov. 12. The meet will be held at Angel Mounds Cross Country Course in Evansville, Indiana.
