
Flashes Have Strong Showing at App State

BOONE, NC- The Golden Flashes had eight wrestlers place in a strong showing at the 2021 Mountaineer Invite hosted by Appalachian State.
Michael Ferree led the Golden Flashes with a second-place finish at 174 pounds. Ferree earned a pair of victories by decision over two App State wrestlers to earn a spot in the 174-title match ultimately won by Matt Finesilver of Duke.
Colin McCracken finished in third at 184 pounds, splitting his two matches on the day. After getting a first-round bye, McCracken dropped his first match to Jacob Thompson of Air Force. He rebounded nicely with a win over Gardner-Webb's Jhaquan Anderson.
Jake Ferri earned a tech-fall in his first-round match on Sunday, en route to a fourth-place finish. Louis Newell also earned a fourth-place finish at 141 pounds. Newell earned a pair of victories by decision on the day.
Enrique Munguia finished in fifth at 157 pounds. The freshman dropped a tough first match, but then ripped through the consolation bracket to go 3-1 on the day and earn fifth place. Munguia closed in dominant fashion with a 15-0 tech fall win and a first-period fall. Jacob Cover followed a similar path in the heavyweight division to earn fifth-place honors as well. Cover rallied through the consolation bracket and picked up an 8-4 win in the fifth-place match.
Brady Chrisman finished sixth at 165 pounds, highlighted by a 3-2 win over Bryson Neace of Duke. Kody Komara also earned sixth-place honors at 149 pounds. Komara earned a strong 6-1 win over Brandon Bright of Gardner-Webb on the day.

The Golden Flashes are back in action next Saturday, traveling to Annapolis to take part in the Navy Classic.
