Kent State will play its final road weekend of the season when it visits Mid-American Conference co-leader Bowling Green for a two-match series. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The Golden Flashes (10-15, 5-8 MAC) struggled during last weekend's road trip and lost all six sets against Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
Led by freshman Ainsley Guse and senior Danie Tyson, Kent State ranks third in the conference with 2.26 blocks per set. Guse ranks third in the MAC with 1.05 blocks per set, and Tyson is close behind with 0.99 blocks per set to rank eighth.
The back row received a boost with the return of senior Erin Gardner to start the conference season. Gardner averages a MAC-best 5.33 digs per set. Sophomore Bryn Roberts donned the libero jersey for most of the first month and adds 3.37 digs per set for the season.
Junior Savannah Matthews leads the Flashes with 2.90 kills per set. Melissa Kolurbasi is averaging a career-best 2.59 kills per set. Junior Taylor Heberle posted a career-high 22 kills while only playing the final four sets in in her return to action against Buffalo on Oct. 23 and is averaging 4.00 kills per set over the past four matches.
Redshirt senior Alex Haffner is seventh in the league with an average of 9.84 assists per set and adds 2.14 digs per set. Haffner leads Kent State with 19 service aces and 10 double-doubles.
SERIES HISTORY
Kent State is 24-62 all-time against Bowling Green. The Golden Flashes snapped an eight-match losing streak in the series with a 3-1 victory in the second meeting of the 2019 season before losing a pair of five-setters this past spring. The victory was Kent State's first at the Stroh Center, which opened in 2011, and the 100th for head coach Don Gromala. The Flashes' leader is 3-15 against the Falcons.
UP NEXT
Kent State will return to the M.A.C. Center for the final three matches of the season, beginning with a two-series against Miami on Nov. 12-13.
