OXFORD, Ohio โ The No. 23 Kent State field hockey team fell to Longwood in the Mid-American Conference tournament semifinals by a score of 1-0.
After a scoreless first three quarters, the Lancers struck off a deflected penalty corner to take a 1-0 lead. This left the Flashes with eight minutes and 47 seconds leftย to find a goal of their own. Kent State's offense, which struggled for the majority of the game, generated a great opportunity for a game tying goal with just under three minutes to play but were unable to convert.
The Flashes pulled goalkeeper Azure Fernsler to get an extra attacker on the field and to provide sustained pressure to Longwood's defense late, but to no avail. Fernsler finished the game with eight saves.
The loss ends Kent State's season at 12-6 and 6-1 in the conference. Longwood improves to 10-6 and 4-3 in the MAC.
