KENT, Ohio — Sophomore Casey Santoro recorded the first triple-double by a Kent State women's basketball player on record Saturday afternoon in an 89-43 victory over Clarion inside of the M.A.C. Center.
Making her first start of the season, Santoro posted 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The 5-foot-4 point guard shot 6-of-10 from the floor and drained four three-pointers, matching the career-high she set Wednesday against Duquesne. Santoro committed just a single turnover in 31 minutes of action and now has an assist-to-turnover ratio of just above 3:1 for the season.
"You don't do that by accident," said head coach Todd Starkey. "It's the type of habits that she has every day. Her work ethic. Her focus. She's tough as nails as a player."
Senior Hannah Young registered her first double-double in a Kent State uniform with a career-high 16 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Bridget Dunn had her best game as a collegian with 15 points and seven rebounds. Senior Annie Pavlansky was the fourth Golden Flash who scored in double-figures, finishing with a career-high 10 points.
Kent State (8-1) made 14 three-pointers in the game, one shy of its highest total of the season, while matching its season-high with 23 assists and turning the ball over a season-low eight times.
The Flashes will break for finals week and return to action by hosting Florida State on Tuesday, Dec. 21 as part of a doubleheader with the men's basketball team that is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
