Wrestling Heads to Vegas for Cliff Keen Invitational

KENT, OHIO- Â The Golden Flashes head west this weekend to take part in the 39th Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational.
The two-day event will take place on Friday and Saturday at the Las Vegas Convention Center. FloArena will be handling the live stats and updates while FloWrestling will be streaming the event, links to watch and follow along can be found on the wrestling schedule page. The prestigious tournament will feature a good test for the Golden Flashes. Of the 27 competing teams, 10 are ranked in the latest Coaches' Poll top-25.
The Cliff Keen will be scored like the NCAAs or MAC Championships with teams accruing points based off the finish of wrestlers at each of the 10 weight classes. Kent State finished 22nd in a 32-team field in 2019, led by Tim Rooney who finished eighth in the 133-pound bracket. Ian Miller is the last Golden Flash to win his bracket at the Invitational, taking home the 157 crown back in 2016.
The Flashes will be showcasing a 10-man lineup that features Jake Ferri (5-3) at 125 pounds, Brendon Fenton (5-3, 133) and Louis Newell (10-5, 141) at the lightweight portion of the brackets. Kody Komara (4-3, 149), Enirque Munguia (9-3, 157) and Brady Chrisman (4-6, 165) in the middleweight portion. Also representing Kent State are Michael Ferree (5-4, 174), Colin McCracken (1-1, 184), Tyler Bates (4-3, 197) and Jacob Cover (4-3, 285).
The wrestling will get started on Friday at noon eastern/9 a.m. local time and day one will conclude with the quarterfinals which start at 9 p.m. eastern/ 6 p.m. local. Saturday's wrestling starts at noon eastern/9 a.m. local time as well and wraps up with the championship rounds starting at 6 p.m. eastern/ 3 p.m. local.
