Blackford’s Double-Double Leads Kent State in Loss at WMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Shooting struggles during the middle two quarters resulted in the Kent State women's basketball team losing to Western Michigan, 71-58, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes (7-6, 6-4 MAC) led by seven after the first 10 minutes of action but shot just 4-of-24 from the floor and 7-of-15 at the free throw line over the next 20 minutes and entered the final quarter trailing by 17.
Kent State was led by its starting frontcourt of sophomore Nila Blackford and junior Lindsey Thall. Blackford posted her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Thall shot 4-of-7 from behind the three-point arc and finished with 14 points and seven boards. The Flashes led 40-37 in rebounds to win the battle on the boards for the fifth straight game.
Sophomore Clare Kelly added 13 points and made multiple three-pointers for the fifth contest in a row.
Kent State will conclude a four-game road swing with games at Northern Illinois on Saturday and Sunday.
