
Kolurbasi’s Career Night Not Enough in 3-2 Loss to Bowling Green

KENT, Ohio – For the second night in a row, Kent State pushed undefeated Bowling Green to the limit in a 3-2 (18-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 12-15) setback between, in a battle between the two top teams in the Mid-American Conference standings inside of the Basketball and Development Center on Friday evening.
The Golden Flashes (8-3) used stellar defense to take a 2-1 lead in the match, totaling 11 blocks and holding their guest to a .156 hitting percentage over the first three sets. Kent State registered just one stuff in sets four and five, however, and the Falcons hit at a .413 clip to escape with the victory.
Junior Lana Strejcek led the blocking effort with six total blocks. Redshirt junior Alex Haffner had a season-high five total blocks and junior Danie Tyson added four total blocks.
In her first start since the second weekend of the season, junior Melissa Kolurbasi stepped up with a career-high 20 kills while posting a .314 hitting percentage. Sophomore Taylor Heberle totaled 12 kills. Alex Haffner recorded 49 assists while running the Flashes' offense.
Junior Erin Gardner led the floor defense with 22 digs. The freshman trio of Bryn Roberts, Amelia Perdue and Maluhia Ma'a had strong performances in the back row. Roberts (17) and Ma'a (14) collected career-highs in digs and Perdue added 14 digs. Haffner had 11 digs to post her seventh double-double of the season.
Kent State is scheduled to host MAC East Division favorite Miami for the final matches at the Basketball and Volleyball Development Center on Thursday, March 4 and Friday, March 5.
