
Kent State Completes Day Two at Akron Invitational

AKRON, Ohio - The Kent State track and field team returned for day two of the Akron Invitational and picked up a handful of top-five finishes.
Headlining day two for the Golden Flashes was the conclusion of the men's heptathlon. Jacob Mally entered the day in second place. Mally went second in both the pole vault and the 60-meter hurdles before winning the 1,000-meter run to take silver in the heptathlon with a total of 5,274 points. Teammate Alexander Shields, who entered the day in first, started strong, picking up 920 points in the 60m hurdles. Shields wound up finishing third in his first collegiate heptathlon with a score of 4,936 points.
In the 4x400-meter relays, both the women and the men crossed the line in third place. The women's team of Alexandria Verbancic, Mi'Angel Daniels, Benja Duff, and Ruby Greenwood ran a time of 3:57.57 to edge Buffalo at the line. The men finished with a more comfortable gap to fourth, as the team of Korie Davis II, Justin Dwyer, Quintin Cooks, and Asa Hodrick finished in a time of 3:19:86.
In the men's high jump, Gavin Schoeneman cleared 6' 8¾" for the third meet in a row to earn third place while teammate Jack McElligott jumped 6' 6¾" to take fifth.
The Flashes will be back in action next week as they host the Doug Raymond National Qualifier at the Kent State Field House on Saturday, February 13.
