Haffner, Matthews Named MAC Athlete of the Week Recipients

CLEVELAND, Ohio โ For the second week in a row, two Kent State student-athletes have received Mid-American Conference East Division Volleyball Player of the Week honors. Redshirt junior Alex Haffner repeated as Setter of the Week and sophomore Savannah Matthews was named Offensive Player of the Week.
Haffner directed a Kent State offense that posted a .333 hitting percentage while averaging 10.33 assists per set in a pair of 3-0 wins at Buffalo. She was tied for second on the team with an average of 2.33 digs per set to help limit the Bulls to a .116 hitting percentage. For the season, Haffner is the MAC leader in assists per set (12.46), which ranks fifth in the nation. She has led the Golden Flashes to the conference's top hitting percentage (.300) and 14.85 kills per set. This is Haffner's fourth career Setter of the Week honor.
Matthews was the catalyst of Kent State's efficient attack with 4.67 kills per set while hitting at a .408 clip. She posted a career-best .520 hitting percentage with 16 kills and three errors on 25 swings on Thursday and added 12 kills on Friday. Matthews also had four block assists to average 5.00 points per set overall for the two matches. She ranks 22nd nationally in kills per set (4.54).
The Flashes will host rival Akron for the spring 2021 home opener inside of the Basketball and Volleyball Development Center on Thursday, February 11 and Friday, February 12.
