KENT, OHIO-Kent State University has updated its attendance policy for athletic events during Spring Semester 2021 to now permit two guests per student-athlete and two guests per coaching staff member for both the home and away teams.
The new attendance policy was determined after a review of state and local COVID-19 conditions, consultation with public health experts and Kent State President Todd Diacon, and discussions with participants and game day personnel. More information will be provided by each specific sport program regarding the inclusion of attendees on the pass list. No additional fan attendance will be permitted at events outside of those included on the pass list. This is inclusive of both indoor and outdoor events effective March 1.
This protocol will be enforced for men's and women's basketball and gymnastics, as well as volleyball matches occurring in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation (MAC) Center. In addition, outdoor sports, including baseball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer and softball will allow two guests per student-athlete/coach. In addition to this group, only game day staff and designated event personnel may be present. Â
The university's Kent Campus resides in Portage County, and as such, it must adhere to the state's guidelines for counties. Remaining flexible and adjusting to any developments with the virus and to changes in state, county and local health guidelines, the university may adjust this attendance policy at any point.
This policy does not extend to working media and scouts as they are considered event personnel. The media and scouts will be required to follow media protocols as well as the Flashes Safe Eight safety principles.
