
Kent State Rallies to Beat Ball State in Five Sets

MUNCIE, Ind. β Kent State fought off a pair of match points and scored five of the final six points in the fifth set to beat Ball State, 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 25-14, 17-15), Thursday night at Worthen Arena.
After falling behind 2-1 in the match, the Golden Flashes (10-4) held the Cardinals to only 10 kills and a .000 hitting percentage over the final two sets to remain undefeated on the road this season.
Redshirt junior Alex Haffner finished with 59 assists, 19 digs and five kills, all season-high totals, to lead Kent State. Sophomore Savannah Matthews posted a match-high 21 kills and added 17 digs. Junior Danie Tyson stuffed the stat sheet with a season-high 14 kills, career-high nine digs, career-high three aces and three blocks. Sophomore Morgan Copley and junior Lana Strejcek also reached double-digit kills with 11 and 10, respectively.
The Flashes tallied 100 digs, hitting the century mark for the third time this season. Freshman Bryn Roberts led the way with 25 digs, while classmates Maluhia Ma'a and Amelia Perdue added 11 digs apiece.
Kent State and Ball State will have a quick turnaround and return to the court at the Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center for a rematch Friday at 2 p.m.
