CLEVELAND, Ohio – Kent State junior Gabby Bailey has been named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week for competition from March 8-14, the league office announced Wednesday evening.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented weekly to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Bailey's personal-best throw of 56'-1.75" was good enough to place sixth in the women's shot put at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which is the second-highest finish ever in the event by a MAC student-athlete. Bailey's new PR earned her First Team All-America honors and moves her to second on Kent State's all-time performance list.
The Golden Flashes are scheduled to begin the outdoor season on Saturday at the Stan Romanoski Open, hosted by West Virginia University.
