
Grover Breaks KSU Heptathlon Record, Flashes Lead After Day 2 at MAC Outdoor Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – Sophomore Shelby Grover finished a record-breaking heptathlon performance at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Women's Track and Field Championship on Friday as Kent State moved to the top of the team standings. The Golden Flashes have totaled 48 points during the first two days of the conference meet and hold a four-point lead going into Saturday's final day of competition, which will feature 13 event finals.
Grover posted personal-bests in all three events of the multis competition to finish second with 5,555 points to beat the previous program record of 5,518 set by Diana Dumitrescu in 2010. The Lucas, Ohio native started the day with a PR of 19'-9.75" in the long jump, which ranks ninth on Kent State's all-time performance list in that event. Svenia De Coninck also recorded a heptathlon PR and finished third with 5,203 points, which puts her fifth on the Flashes' all-time performance list.
Both Grover and De Coninck also scored in the long jump later in the afternoon. Grover nearly matched her newly-set PR with a mark of 19'-9.50" for fifth place and De Coninck soared a personal-best 19'-3.75" for seventh. Keeli Dunaway also had a PR and took sixth with a mark of 19'-5.50".
Led by Aliesha Shaw's runner-up performance, the Flashes totaled 11 points in the shot put. Shaw took the lead with a personal-best 51'-11.25" on her final attempt, but Bowling Green's Trista Fintel followed with a throw of 53'-9" to win gold. Aubrey Schoeneman placed sixth with a top throw of 47'-3.75" to add three points to the team tally.
Kent State had seven additional athletes advance to Saturday finals in running events.
Saturday's final day of competition begins at 12:30 p.m. with the triple jump. Running events will start at with the 4x100-meter relay at 1:10 p.m.
