
Women Captures First MAC Indoor T&F Championships Since 2014

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – For the first time since 2014, the Kent State women's team hoisted the trophy at the conclusion of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, as the two-day meet concluded on Saturday.
The Golden Flashes added two golds and two silvers on the second day of competition and totaled 104 points to finish three points ahead of runner-up Akron.
Amryne Chilton led the way and contributed 13 points on Saturday, highlighted by her first indoor gold medal. Chilton sprinted to victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.36 seconds and added one point by placing eighth in the 60-meter dash (7.64). The junior also ran the third leg of the 4x400-meter relay team that finished second in 3:45.50 to close the meet and clinch the team title. Ella Baker, Casey Musgrave and Marinna Atanmo also competed in the relay race.
Karsyn Spears and Camille Dunifer ran away from the field in the 800-meter run. Spears was the first across the finish line in 2:09.95 for her first indoor gold. Dunifer placed second in 2:10.43, which was nearly two seconds ahead of the third-place competitor.
The triple jump was Kent State's final double-digit event, as Lanee Hall and Keeli Dunaway combined for 10 points. Hall placed third with a jump of 41'-2.25" and Dunaway had a top mark of 40'-10.25" for fifth.
Two more Flashes recorded fifth place finishes. Musgrave clocked a time of 56.35 seconds in the 400-meter dash and Svenia De Coninck cleared 5'-7.75" in the high jump.
Kent State's final four points came in the 60-meter hurdles. Gabrielle Hammonds placed sixth in 8.59 seconds and Alexa Nestor crossed the finish line in 8.63 seconds for eighth.
