
Kent State Women in First After Day 1 at MAC Indoor T&F Championships

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Kent State sits atop the standings through the first six events of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Women's Track and Field Championships.
The Golden Flashes totaled 40 points during competition on Friday and are five points ahead of second-place Akron.
Kent State's pentathlon quartet contributed 26 points, which would be third in the team standings. Shelby Grover led the way with 3,853 points for second in the pentathlon and added a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 19'-4.75". Svenia De Coninck was close behind in the pentathlon and took third with 3,806 points. Alexa Nestor placed fifth with 3,677 points and Matilde Carboncini was seventh with 3,570 points.
Kyla Taress recorded her best finish at a conference meet and soared over the bar at 12'-7.50" for third in the pole vault.
A pair of Flashes recorded personal-best marks and totaled five points in the weight throw. Kennedy Landrus finished fifth with a throw of 59'-9" and Noel Frye took eighth with a mark of 57'-3".
Maya Justice was Kent State's final scorer on opening day and placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 18'-11.75".
The Flashes had seven student-athletes earn eight spots in running events finals. Amryne Chilton led the way by qualifying in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Laila Eiland will join Chilton in the 200m. Gabrielle Hammonds (60-meter hurdles), Nestor (60m hurdles), Casey Musgrave (400m), Camille Dunifer (800m) and Karsyn Spears (800m) will also compete for gold on Saturday.
The final day of the championship meet will start with the shot put at 10 a.m. Running events will start at 12:30 p.m. with the mile.
