SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Three Kent State athletes posted event victories during competition at the Dave Labor Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Kristen Jay continued to ascend in the Golden Flashes' record book with the furthest javelin throw since 2009. Jay's personal-best throw of 164'-6" beat her previous top mark set just one week ago by more than five feet and ranks sixth in Kent State history.
In her outdoor debut, Camille Dunifer won the women's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:32.44 that is the 10th fastest in program history.
Grace Smith dominated the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a winning time of 11:09.43 that was more than 50 seconds faster than the rest of the field.
Keeli Dunaway led non-event winners and finished second in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.86 seconds that ranks No. 9 on the Flashes' all-time performance list. Ana Fernandez Moiron also had a runner-up performance on the track with a time of 2:17.59 in the women's 400-meter dash.
Kent State excelled in the hammer throw with four top-4 finishes. Donovan Crawford took second in the men's competition with a season-best mark of 183'-3". In the women's competition, Kennedy Landrus matched her PR with a throw of 174'-3" to also place second. Kaylee Carlisle (166'-11") was right behind in third and Noel Frye (166'-0") placed fourth.
Nia Massey set new personal-bests in both races she ran and placed fourth in both the 200-meter dash (24.31) and 400-meter dash (56.65).
The Flashes will have athletes competing at three different meets — hosted by Akron, Georgia and USF — next week.
