
Flashes Lead Opening Day of Clemson Invitational

SUNSET, S.C.- The Kent State women's golf team stands in first place after 27-holes of play at the Clemson Invitational. Because of the weather expected for Sunday, teams played 27 holes today and will resume the remainder of the second round tomorrow.
Kent State posted a first round score of 284 (-4) and leads second-place Maryland by four shots.
"Caley started out on fire!" said coach Lisa Strom. " Everyone really had some highlights. We had great energy and everyone did an excellent job keeping their attitudes up. Momentum can really build when we are all in one group."
Caley McGinty is in first place after posting a career-best 66 (-6) opening round score. McGinty went 15 holes for par or less and birdied nine times. She stands at even par nine holes into the second round.
Chloe Salort carded a 70 (-2) score in the first round after going 17 holes for par or better with three birdies. Salort is 1-over with nine holes remaining in the second round and sits tied for fifth at 1-under par.
Mayka Hoogeboom is tied for 11th at 1-over par after she posted an opening round score of 74 (+2) and sits at 1-under par with nine holes remaining in the second round. Kory Nielsen is tied for 18th after carding a 74 (+2) in the first round and is at even-par nine holes into the second round.
Marissa Kirkwood fired a 75 (+3) in the opening round and is 2-over par with nine holes remaining in the second round.
Kent State will resume the second round tomorrow and tee off at 9 a.m. The tournament will look to try and finish the remaining 27 holes tomorrow.
