Kent State Will Battle Akron to Start Second Half of Season

The Kent State soccer team (2-3-0) are back on the road this weekend as they travel to Akron to take on the Zips on Sunday to begin the second half of the season, with kick-off slated for 5 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes dropped the road contest at Bowling Green 5-0. Sarah Melén finished with nine saves and the offense was held to just one shot on goal.

-A 0.5 point is up for grabs in the Crystal Clinic Wagon Wheel Challenge and it could be an important 0.5 point as the challenge is tied 4.0-4.0 with women's lacrosse, baseball, softball, and men's and women's outdoor track and field left to factor into this year's competition.
-Kent State has won ten straight against Akron, with its last loss coming in 2010 in a 2-1 double overtime loss. Four of the last five games against the Zips have been shut outs.
Scouting Akron
Akron enters the second half of the season winless in five games with a record of 0-4-1. Offensively, the Zips have yet to score a goal in 12 shots on goal. Defensively, goalkeepers Vanessa Berlin and Libby Harper have combined to make 19 saves on 58 shots faced and eight goals conceded. Harper is credited with a shut out in their draw against Buffalo.

Kent State has a 17-3-0 record all-time against their bitter rivals and won the first contest this season off the lone goal by Yasmine Hall.
