Spring Volleyball Season Ends in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kent State lost to host Western Michigan, 3-0 (18-25, 22-25, 15-25) to conclude the spring 2021 volleyball season on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes finished fifth in the Mid-American Conference standings with a 12-9 record, which is the best conference winning percentage (.571) since 2015.
Junior Danie Tyson had another strong offensive performance, sharing the team lead of eight kills with a .500 hitting percentage and two solo blocks. Sophomore Morgan Copley and freshman Maluhia Ma'a also had eight kills, while sophomore Savannah Matthews added seven. Redshirt junior Alex Haffner led Kent State with 25 assists.
Senior Kaeleigh Stang had a match-high 16 digs in her final time in a Flashes uniform.
The Broncos scored the first five points of the day and took an 18-9 lead. Kent State won five of the next six points to get within five. Following a 3-0 Western Michigan run, the Flashes got within four with a 4-0 run. The Broncos were able to take the next three points and win the opening set, 25-18.
Trailing by 13 in the second set, Kent State fought all the way back to get within 24-22 and force Western Michigan to call both of its timeouts. Maggie King was then able to put the set away with a kill.
The Flashes led by two points multiple times in the third set, but the Broncos closed the match with a 12-1 run.
