Flashes Bring Home 22nd-Straight MAC Championship

SILVER LAKE, Ohio- The Kent State women's golf team won its 22nd-straight Mid-American Conference Championship, tallying a third round total of 296 (+8) at the Silver Lake Country Club. Sophomore Caley McGinty was crowned the tournament champion after a tournament total of 4-under 212.
At 878 (+14) for the tournament, the Flashes won by 36 strokes over second place Northern Illinois and 42 shots over third place Akron. The Flashes, who have won every championship tournament put on by the conference, had all scores finish in the top-10.
McGinty went 17 holes for par or better with three birdies en route to a 70 (-2) score in the final round. She completed the final nine holes bogey-free and finished with a 54 hole total of 4-under 212.
Emily Price finished the final round with a 75 (+3) and finished second overall with a 217 (+1). Chloe Salort finished in third place with a 224 (+8) score after carding a 76 (+4) in the final round.
Kory Nielsen had her best round of the tournament after carding a 75 (+3) and finished seventh overall at 227 (+11). Mayka Hoogeboom rounded out the Flashes lineup and placed ninth with a 230 (+14) score after she fired a 79 (+7) in the final round.
Kent State led the tournament with 31 total birdies as well as leading in par-3, par-4, and par-5 holes.
After the tournament, Kent State brought home several pieces of hardware. McGinty headlined postseason award winners as the 2021 MAC Golfer of the Year, named to the First Team All-MAC, and All-Tournament Team. Head coach Lisa Strom was named Co-Coach of the Year sharing the award with Northern Illinois' head coach, Kim Kester. Nielsen, Price, and Salort were also named to the All-MAC First Team, while Marissa Kirkwood was named to the All-MAC Second Team. Price and Salort also found themselves a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
The Flashes will move on to the NCAA Regional Tournament and will learn their Regional destination on Wednesday, April 28 during the NCAA Selection Show, which airs 2 p.m. ET on the Golf Channel. Regionals are May 10-12 at the following sites; Baton Rouge, Louisiana (University Club), Columbus, Ohio (OSU Golf Club – Scarlet Course), Louisville, Kentucky (University of Louisville Golf Club) and Stanford, California (Stanford Golf Course).
