Flashes Welcome In Rockets for Four-Game Series

KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes (12-11, 5-3) return home to the friendly confines of Schoonover Stadium this weekend, welcoming in the Toledo Rockets for a four-game conference series.
The four-game set begins Friday night starting at 5 p.m. Saturday's double header and Sunday's finale will get started at 1 p.m. Attendance for the weekend series will follow the University's spring attendance policy.ย
ABOUT THE GOLDEN FLASHES
ย Kent State is coming off a four-game sweep at Bowling Green last weekend. The Golden Flashes were firing on all cylinders, scoring 47 runs in the four-game set and plating double digit runs each game.
STARTS AT THE TOP
Outfielder Ben Carew stepped into the lead-off spot last series and went on a tear against the Falcons. The senior went 11-for-18 (.611) over the four games, scoring 10 runs and driving in six more. Carew had at least two hits and scored at least two runs in all four games.
HE'S GOT THE POWER
Nick Elsen had a memorable weekend against the Falcons. Elsen socked three home runs, including his second grand slam of the season and homered in each of the final three games of the series. In total, the first baseman drove in 11 over the four-game series, putting him second in the MAC in RBI and third in homers during conference play.
GIVE ME RELIEF
The Golden Flashes relievers were outstanding against the Falcons last weekend. Five different relievers appeared over the four-game set and combined to allow just two runs over 12 and 2/3 innings. Jack Zimmerman made two appearances and tossed four scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out six.
ABOUT THE ROCKETS
The Rockets come into the weekend at 4-8 in MAC play and 6-19 overall. They are coming off a series split with the Ohio Bobcats last weekend. Chris Meyers paces the offense, the infielder leads Toledo and the MAC with five homers during conference play. Five players are hitting over .300 against MAC pitching and the Rockets average 4.5 runs per game.
On the mound, Layne Schnitz-Paxton has led the rotation with a 2-0 MAC record, the Rockets are 3-0 in his conference starts so far this season. He's second in the MAC with 25 strikeouts in just 19 innings pitched. Wyatt Jefferson has worked as an "opener" throwing the first inning-plus in his two starts, he's pitched to a team best 2.45 ERA but only in three and two-thirds innings of work.
