
Kent State Brings Home Additional MAC Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Hardware

CLEVELAND – Kent State's 2021 Mid-American Conference champion women's outdoor track and field team received four postseason awards, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.
Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Bill Lawson was named MAC Women's Coach of the Year for the 10th time after leading the Golden Flashes' women to their 10th conference championship since 2010.
Associate head coach Nathan Fanger received MAC Women's Assistant Coach of the Year recognition after his student-athletes dominated at the conference meet. Kent Sate captured three of the four throwing event titles and totaled 54 points. Three throwing student-athletes posted new personal-best marks.
Grace Tennant scored a meet-high 26 points to earn the Most Valuable Performer award. Tennant started the championships by winning the javelin throw on Friday with a season-best mark of 151'-4". She added runner-up finishes on Saturday with a personal-best throw of 178'-2" in the discus and a mark of 51'-1.75" in the shot put.
Double-champion Gabby Bailey was named Most Outstanding Field Performer, an honor she also earned during the indoor season. Bailey captured victories in the shot put and discus throw on Saturday, with the latter clinching the team title for the Flashes. She won the shot put with a season-best throw of 55'-1" and followed with a winning mark of 183'-5" in the discus.
Kent State will be in action at three different last-chance meets this weekend as additional student-athletes attempt to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Florida from May 27-29.
