KENT, OHIO- Akron second baseman Brad Goulet had a career day with three homers and six driven in as Akron spoiled the Golden Flashes' home finale in a 9-6 setback on Tuesday night.

Goulet went 3-4 with the three homers, six driven in and four runs scored and gave Akron a 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the second inning. The Zips doubled their lead in the third on a sacrifice fly before the Kent State offense got going in the bottom of the inning. Kent State loaded the bases in both the second and the third and dented the plate in the third on a Collin Mathews' sac fly. The teams traded runs in the fourth, Akron scoring on Goulet's second homer of the night and the Flashes loading the bases yet again and scoring on a Mathews' hit by pitch.

The Zips broke it open in the fifth as Goulet struck again, hitting a grand slam to left to put Akron up 7-2. Kent State rallied back in the bottom of the inning as Jake Reifsnyder singled home two and Ben Carew brought home a third to make it 7-5. Michael McNamara brought the Flashes with in one an inning later with a line drive homer to left to make it 7-6, it is the freshman's fifth homer of the year.

The Flashes would get no closer. Akron got two insurance runs in the seventh to go up 9-6 and the chances the Flashes had early in the game proved to play crucial in the outcome. Despite both teams using at least four pitchers, the starters ended up being the pitchers of record. John Creel got the win for Akron, going the first three innings. Jack Zimmerman got his first start of the season and took the loss allowing two runs and striking out three in his two and a third innings. Mark Meyer got the save tossing three shutout innings.

Kent State sits at 27-25 and heads to Ypsilanti this weekend for four with Eastern Michigan. First pitch on Friday night is set for 6 p.m.
