PREVIEWING THE FLASHES
Kent State has 29 student-athletes entered to compete, including 11 that rank in the top 5 in the MAC in their respective events.
Scott Benco is the top-ranked athlete in the javelin throw, launching the spear 217'-8". He is joined by Bradley Heck, who ranks fourth with a throw of 198'-11". Jake Wickey ranks second in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 217'-10".
The Flashes are positioned to score big in the vertical jumps. Kristian Kneffler (16'-10.75") and Lukas Van Der Watt (16'-6.75") rank second and third, respectively, in the pole vault. Gavin Schoeneman (6'-11") ranks third in the high jump and Brad Jones (6'-9.75") is tied for fourth.
Anthony Milliner leads the way in the horizontal jumps with a mark of (49'-10.5") that ranks third in the triple jump. Del'Mario Hairston is fourth in the conference in both long jump (23'-8") and triple jump (46'-6.75"). TJ Lawson could make some noise in the long jump despite ranking seventh with a mark of 22'-9.75" in his only competition of the season. Lawson, who will be fresher than at previous MAC Outdoor Championships since he is not entered in the decathlon, placed second at the 2018 MAC Indoor Championships.
Jaheim Jones and Asa Hodrick lead Kent State in running events. Jones ranks fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.87 and Hodrick's 21.56 ranks fourth in the 200-meter dash. Both are members of the 4x100-meter relay team that enters with the second-best time (41.09) in the conference.
Jacob Mally is the only MAC athlete who has completed the decathlon this year, posting 6,788 points at the Tennessee Relays.
