
Sprints Lead Men’s Track and Field at MAC Outdoor Championships

OXFORD, Ohio. – The 4x100-meter relay team of Dejon Manning, Asa Hodrick, Xavier Williams and Jaheim Jones captured gold in the first running final to set the tone as Kent State's sprinters accounted for 44 points on Saturday's final day of the 2021 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Golden Flashes finished fourth overall with 113 points.
The winning time of 40.38 seconds is the 10th-fastest in Kent State history. Asa Hodrick was the Flashes' standout on the day, as he was joined by Korie Davis II, Kyle Sommer and Quintin Cooks to finish the 4x400m relay in 3:14.69 for second place in the final race of the competition. Individually, Hodrick sprinted to runner-up finishes in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. The Cincinnati native set a personal-best in both races, clocking a 10.56 in the 10mm and crossing the finish line in 20.77 in the 200m, which is the eighth-fastest time in school history.
Jaheim Jones ran a personal-best time of 10.72 for third place in the 100m, while Dejon Manning took fifth in both the 100m (10.90) and 200m (21.57).
Scott Benco and Anthony Milliner earned individual titles on Saturday. Benco won the javelin throw by more than 13 feet with a mark of 216'-10". Milliner sat in third entering his final triple jump attempt before leaping past the competition with a personal-best mark of 50'-10.75".
Kent State took third and fourth place in both the high jump and decathlon. Brad Jones cleared 6'-8.75" for third in the high jump and Jack McElligott posted a height of 6'-6.75". Jacob Mally posted a personal-best 6,911 points in the decathlon to earn third, while Alexander Shields finished his first decathlon with 5,710 points.
Kent State will have select athletes in action at a to-be-determined meet next week prior to the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Florida from May 27-29.
