
Men’s 4x100 Relay Team Closes Weekend with MAC Meet Record

MUNCIE, Ind. – The 4x100-meter relay team set the meet record to highlight three gold medals for Kent State on the final day of the 2026 Mid-American Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Sean Callahan Jr., Ryan Gruss, Chaz Sakala and Jacob Stanley opened running events with a record-setting time of 39.33 seconds. In addition to beating the MAC meet record set by the Golden Flashes two years ago, they also beat the school record that was set back in April.
Callahan Jr. added individual gold by winning the 100-meter dash in 10.41 seconds and took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.04 seconds. Sakala was close behind in the 100m and was second in 10.46 seconds. Ryan Gruss (21.09) and Zavion Mattox (21.60) finished fourth and eighth, respectively, in the 200m.
Kent State also claimed the top two spots in the 400-meter hurdles. Beau Harkelroad raced to gold with a time of 51.90 seconds and Owen Miller made a late push for second with a personal-best time of 51.94 seconds that ranks fifth on the program's all-time performance list. Harkelroad placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a PR of 14.39 seconds, and Jack Dillen finished sixth with a PR of 14.52 seconds.
Baidy Ba earned silver in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:32.68.
Micah Coates and Dylan McBride placed sixth in their respective events to close out scoring in individual events. Coates clocked a time of 48.29 in the 400m and McBride posted a time of 1:51.08 in the 800-meter run.
The Flashes placed second in the 4x400-meter relay to end the meet. Sakala, Gruss, Miller and Coates recorded a time of 3:09.93.
Kent State finished third in the team standings with 143 points.
Athletes who rank in the top 48 in the region will compete at the NCAA East Preliminary in Lexington, Kentucky from May 27-30.
