OXFORD, Ohio – The Kent State women's track and field team will enter day two as the meet leaders on the strength of two title wins on day one of the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships.
Freshman Leah Pasqualetti continued her phenomenal first season to highlight the day for the Golden Flashes. Pasqualetti, already the indoor and outdoor school record holder and the 2021 MAC indoor pole vault champion, completed her sweep of the 2021 pole vault titles. She cleared 13' 5.75" to secure the win before attempting and missing at 13' 11.75".
The other Kent State athlete to win a title on day one was Grace Tennant, who captured the javelin crown with a personal best throw of 151' 3". The win on Friday will give Tennant plenty of momentum for Saturday where she will compete in the shot put and discus.
Benja Duff and Ruby Greenwood both qualified for finals. Duff qualified for tomorrow's 100-meter hurdles final based on her 2021 best time of 14.20. This is made more impressive by the fact that she ran in the only heat where the wind did not exceed the limit of +2.0 m/s. Greenwood would set a two second personal best and finish in the top two in her heat to qualify for the 400-meter dash final, crossing the finish line in 54.90.
Competition will resume tomorrow afternoon with the shot put beginning at 12:30 p.m. The running events will start at 1:40 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay. The 4x400-meter relay will close out the meet with the starter's pistol set to go off at 5:45 p.m.
