ATLANTA – Kent State earned the 16th-highest team grade point average (3.655) among NCAA Division I women's basketball teams that competed during the 2020-21 academic year, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced on Tuesday.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2020-21 season is the 26th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
"This honor is not only a tribute to our excellent student-athletes but also to our academic team and Kerrie James-Hunter," stated head coach Todd Starkey. "Recruiting, competing with and graduating balanced student-athletes is a cornerstone of our women's basketball program at Kent State."
The Golden Flashes set a program record with a 3.710 GPA during the fall semester and closed the year with a 3.609 GPA this past spring.
