Kent State Hosts Saint Francis (Pa.) Tuesday for Volleyball Home Opener

Kent State will begin its home volleyball scheduled on Tuesday night when Saint Francis (Pa.) visits the M.A.C. Center for a 6 p.m. contest.
The Golden Flashes won a pair of matches Saturday to finish 2-1 at the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational. Kent State ranks in the top half of the Mid-American Conference in every statistical category, including second in blocks per set (2.50) and third in assists per set (12.58).
In addition to being named to the all-tournament team, redshirt senior Alex Haffner was named MAC East Division Setter of the Week on Monday and ranks 16th in the country with a conference-best 11.33 assists per set. Junior Morgan Copley also earned a spot on the all-tournament team after hitting .500 and averaging 3.22 points per set during the Flashes' two wins.
Three players averaged more than 2.50 kills per set. Junior Savannah Matthews led Kent State in scoring in each match and ranks second in the MAC with 4.71 points per set while ranking third with 3.83 kills per set. Senior Danie Tyson added 2.83 kills per set while hitting .356 and added 1.08 blocks per set. Senior Melissa Kolurbasi posted 2.55 kills per set.
Sophomore Bryn Roberts spent nearly the entire weekend in the libero jersey and ranks 10th in the MAC with 3.58 digs per set.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Saint Francis (Pa.) lost all three of its matches at the YSU Invitational on opening weekend. After being swept by Akron in the first match, the Red Flash were able to take one set from Duquesne and Youngstown State. Saint Francis was unable to hit above .200 in a single match and finished the tournament with a .171 hitting percentage.
Outside hitter Madi Tyus and right side Nicole Adams provided a bulk of the offense during the season's first weekend. Tyus led the way with 4.18 kills per set and Adams contributed 3.55 kills per set. The duo combined for a .230 hitting percentage, while the rest of the team hit at just a .079 clip. Kimmy Sweeney registered 9.55 assists per to guide the attack. Â
SERIES HISTORY
Kent State is 3-0 all-time against Saint Francis. The Golden Flashes earned 3-0 sweeps during the first two matchups in 1990 and 2012. Most recently, Kent State won 3-1 during a matchup at West Virginia in 2014.

Kent State will play three matches this weekend at the Fairfield Invitational against Hofstra, Seton Hall and host Fairfield.
