(KENT, Ohio) - The Kent State women's soccer team prepares to take on visiting Canisius Thursday at 6 P.M. at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium. Then on Sunday, head coach Rob Marinaro's team ventures to Northwestern, to take on the Wildcats at 2 P.M. (1 P.M. CT).
About the Flashes
The Golden Flashes come into the weekend with a 2-1 record on the season, following a 4-1 win against Youngstown State last Thursday. Redshirt senior forward Cameron Shedenhelm enters the festivities on fire this season, already having scored three goals in as many games, including two in the YSU game. She also picked up an assist in that game, giving her a team-leading seven total points this season. Freshman midfielder Alisa Arthur is second on the team with two goals and four points. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Melen has played every minute this season, only allowing six goals and holding Cleveland State scoreless on opening night.
About the Golden Griffins and Wildcats
Canisius enters play Thursday with a record of 0-2-2, having most recently tied with St. Francis Brooklyn August 29. Junior Jen Romero leads the team with two goals this season. The Griffins also played Cleveland State this season, faring worse than the Flashes did in their game against CSU, falling to the Vikings 4-2 three days after Kent State beat them 2-0.
After Kent State faces off with Canisius Thursday, they take to the road and head to Northwestern. The Wildcats enter play at 1-2, picking up a win in their most recent contest at William & Mary after losing in their first two games at Xavier and Butler. Junior Aurea Martin leads the team with two goals and is tied for the lead in points at four with sophomore Josie Aulicino. This will be the Wildcats' first home game of the young season, as they do battle with the Flashes before beginning Big 10 play later in the month.
