KENT, OHIO- Kent State quarterback Dustin Crum has added two more watch lists to his pre-season resume, getting named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) watch list for the first time and the Manning Award watch list for the second time.
In its seventh season, the College Football Performance Awards are determined strictly off a player's stats as well as advanced metrics. The CFPA also specifically measures the extent that a player's performance has on the effectiveness of their team. The CFPA honor players at each position on the field as well as overall offensive, defensive and National awards.
Crum returns to the Manning Award watch list for the second-straight season. The Manning Award is named for Archie, Eli and Peyton Manning and was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl prior to the 2004 season. It is currently the only quarterback award that takes a player's bowl performance into consideration. As a result, the Manning Award is given out after the bowl season.
These two watch lists run Crum's pre-season total to five, joining the Walter Camp, Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards. They are well-deserved honors for the Grafton, Ohio native. Crum is coming off a first-team all-conference season last year. He is one of 18 returning starters for the Flashes this season and a big reason why the Golden Flashes are media pre-season favorites in the MAC East.
As a senior, the now graduate student helped engineer the Nation's top offense in total yards per game (606.5) and points per game (49.8). Crum was a big reason for those gaudy numbers, he averaged 295 yards passing per game last season and added another 60 yards per game rushing.
The Grafton, Ohio native completed 73.5 percent of his passes while tossing 12 touchdowns against two interceptions in the Flashes' four games last season. His 73.5 percent completion percentage tied for second in the FBS, his 192.75 pass efficiency rating was fourth while his 295 yards per game ranked 14th.
He continued to prove to be a dual-threat, leading all Mid-American Conference quarterbacks in rushing yards (240) and rushing touchdowns (4).
The Golden Flashes open up the 2021 season at Texas A and M on Saturday, September 4th. Kick time is set for 8 p.m. eastern and can be seen on ESPN U.
