KENT, Ohio – The Kent State men's basketball team (8-8, 3-3 MAC) departs snowy Northeast Ohio and travels to Eastern Michigan (7-8, 1-2 MAC) for a conference showdown tomorrow night at 7 p.m., at the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
The Golden Flashes jolted back in the win column behind an electrifying performance by Sincere Carry. Carry tied a career-high 32 points against rival Akron to claim the all-time series lead in the Wagon Wheel rivalry.
Carry scored 19 points over the final nine minutes as the Flashes outscored the Zips 23-12 over that stretch. It was the first time the Flashes have beat Akron by 10 or more points since the 2018 season.
The Golden Flashes started to hit some shots from beyond the arc against Akron, draining nine threes in the game including six in the opening half. The team shot 40 percent from three in the rivalry win while holding Akron to just 16.7 percent from three. The Flashes will look to continue its fiery shooting performance as they continue MAC play.
Tervell Beck got it going on Friday night against the Zips, scoring 11 points and grabbing five rebounds. His 11 points are his most against a D-1 opponent this season. The Flashes also got contributions from first-time starters VonCameron Davis and Akeem Odusipe who provided excellent hustle and determination during the victory.
Scouting the Eagles
Eastern Michigan is coming off a loss at the hands of Northern Illinois on Saturday. The Eagles fall to just 1-7 in road games but remain an impressive 6-1 at home. EMU is led by former Kent State head coach Stan Heath, who led the Flashes to an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2002.
EMU is led on the court by Noah Farrakhan who averages 17.4 points per game. He is shooting 40 percent from the field and 44 percent from three. The Eagles are shooting just 33 percent as a team from deep, but Farrakhan has been impressive. Along with him, Monty Scott and Bryce McBride each average double-digit points on the year.
Eastern Michigan has conference wins over Western Michigan and Central Michigan, while their two losses have come against Ball State and Northern Illinois. In their two conference losses, the Eagles have failed to hit the 75-point mark while they have scored 75 or more points in each of their conference wins.
